Turquoise - Variation in Appearance & Quality

There can be a great variation in appearance & quality of the turquoise taken from any turquoise mine. In fact after mining hundreds of pounds of turquoise only a hand full are of gem quality. To ensure the gem quality of your turquoise it should have at least a 6 on the MOH hardness scale.  

Before Purchasing Turquoise

Turquoise is an expensive stone and must be purchased with a careful eye. The price of turquoise is decided by the intensity of its colour.  Deep shades of turquoise are rare and expensive. A pastel shade or lackluster turquoise is generally a lower quality of natural turquoise.
